Viral video making the rounds online shows a local food vendor being harassed by a group of females who are said to be residents of #Carlsbad and students at San Diego State University, prompting a response from the school Monday.

TikTok user @enamoradoalex_ published the profanity-laced video on the platform Monday morning, which shows the group repeatedly being asked to move before one of the females grabs food directly off of the vendor’s grill. The TikTok user added the hashtag #ProtectStreetVendors to his plea along with a number of affiliated social media accounts in hopes of holding the group accountable.

In a video interview, the vendor says the antagonizing went on for about 40 minutes. “They weren’t even there for the hot dogs, they just wanted to pick on me”, the vendor said. “Even if I would’ve gave it for free, they would’ve done the same”. A Venmo username of @icecream22 was provided to offer support to the vendor amid the investigation into the incident.

“We are appreciative of those who quickly reported the video circulating on social media to the university. The actions of those in the video are upsetting and inappropriate”, SDSU said in a statement. “While individual names have been shared online, it is not yet confirmed that those involved are SDSU students. SDSU’s Center For Student Rights and Responsibilities is reviewing the video and is asking anyone who has specific information about what happened and those involved to report information as soon as possible via the online reporting form”. The reporting form can be found in the bio of the university’s TikTok page, @sandiegostateuniversity. San Diego: Group Harasses Street Vendor on SDSU Campus
