A feasibility study will soon be conducted to determine whether methanol could be used as an alternative fuel for vehicles in this country.

This after the National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago along with Methanex Trinidad Limited recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the adoption of methanol as a fuel in the marine and automotive industry.

Methanex, which is the largest producer and supplier of methanol globally, says it supports this move, adding that its subsidiary Waterfront Shipping, currently operates a fleet of 12 methanol-fuelled ships.

President of Methanex, Colin Bain, says this project is more than just exploring the viability of an alternative fuel and hopes this project will lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

The MOU also represents a public-private sector partnership in support of Government's Paris Agreement commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2030. Feasibility Study To Be Conducted On Utilising Methanol As Alternative Fuel For Vehicles
